Abstract

The high marine potential of Cilacap Regency has not been correlated with a decrease in the poverty rate. Villagers in coastal areas who mostly work as fishermen experience economic difficulties due to uncertain economic conditions that depend on weather conditions. Analysis of optimal sustainable utilization of fishery resources is needed to increase the income of the community, especially people in the coastal areas of Cilacap Regency. This research uses an analytical descriptive method. The results of this study indicate that the capture fisheries sector of bigeye tuna (thunnus obesus) fishery resources in Cilacap Regency is experiencing overfishing hence if the increase in coastal community income remains through the capture fisheries sector, it will lead to unsustainable utilization of the fishery resources which is very contrary to the concept of blue economy. Industrialization of maritime-based processing of bigeye tuna resources in the coastal areas of Cilacap Regency, including the development of derivative products, is an alternative to optimal sustainable utilization of fishery resources to increase income.
